Greatest Impact?

So the world of communication is always changing...from your telegrams and horse and buggy to text messages and overnight shipping...what do you think has been the most efficient and successful form of communication or even the most beneficial device/advancement in communications.

I thought it interesting when our guest speaker last week mentioned that the birth of the Internet had an impact on communications similar to the invention of the printing press.
My vote depends on how I measure. Face-to-face communication is so effective that it's tough to beat, but it's not an efficient way to reach a large group of people. Email is an efficient and cost-effective way to reach masses of people, but it's so easily ignored. As far as device, I'm leaning toward the new era of smart phones/PDAs. The ability to stay in touch -- voice, text, email -- and access from the Web from a small device that fits in your hand. Wow.

Face to face is hard to beat, but because of all these new inventions many people tend to shy away from it. In addition, sometimes its not as effective as it could be because many people say things "behind your back" so to speak, that they really wouldnt say to your face....therefore they opt for emails, memoranda, and text messages.

Hey LaLovely This is a very interesting question...you know like the type of question you would ask at a dinner party and the discussion would go on & on...because who could agree on just one type of communication being "it"? I agree with Kristie about face-to-face being # 1 and email easily ignored, yet useful...my vote is going to be for a handwritten note received in your own mail box. Who could "not" open it and take it to heart?
As far business communications, guess what gets me the highest % of call backs when I send out sales information? Handwritten expensive paper mailed notes.
Thanks for asking;) Lorinda
